Hi everyone. I couldn't find an exact place for Sunflowers, so I chose *Annuals* LOL. My question: I am always reading how EASY sunflowers are to grow. I have not had success at all. Every seed I plant either never comes up or it tries, then fades away while still a little one just fresh from germination. When planting them, I assume you leave the shell on? What about soil? I planted mine in soiless peat pots and stuck in the ground...not buried, just enough to let the top of the peat pot show above ground. I put netting over in case a hungry bird wanted to munch.
I planted in sun, watered daily...zip. What is the secret? I have a package of seeds and I want to plant! Any tips? I so love sunflowers...small, medium, giant alike. I even have lots of computer desktop wallpapers of them! To me, they are such a wonder of nature :D I did buy one plant from Home Depot. It had 4 blossoms on it. One big open one and 3 other buds. After the opened one faded, the other 3 died before even opening! So sad. I planted in sun and during our recent hot weather, I watered daily. Perhaps I drowned it? :(
Thanks so much
Cissy
